Post F1 syndrome - MotoGP as an alternative?

The Singapore GP 2011 is now done and dusted, and it will be another 12 months before the F1 party comes back to the Lion City again. As always associated with major events, once the event is over, the true fans of the sport will definitely suffer some form of post event syndrome. How do we overcome this?

For fans of motorsports, I usually turn to MotoGP, which usually takes place a week later than the F1. As I was writing about the soccer trends happening in Europe every season, it is almost the same for F1 and MotoGP. Casey Stoner is leading the championship by quite a fair bit of margin, barring any forms of incidents, he should be crowned the World Champion this season. This is only his first year with Honda and he’s already producing results with his fast and consistent riding. Pedrosa has had little luck this year with crashes and injuries, but still prove that he is one of the better Honda riders in the field.

Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies are fast riders, but Yamaha this year did not seem capable of delivering an equally fast bike for them. The most disappointing have to be Valentino Rossi, multiple times World Champion throughout different classes, but his debut year in Ducati is just so disappointing. Given that Ducati machines are not easy to ride with where in the past years, only Stoner had been able to turn it into a Championship bike in 2007, a rider of Rossi’s caliber should have brought more to the table.  Remember that during his first year at Yamaha, the team has not won any title in years and he managed to win it in his debut season.

Time for some comparison of trends in F1 and MotoGP:

F1
Current leader is Sebastien Vettel who should win his 2nd World title this year.
MotoGP
Current leader, Casey Stoner is leading the standings by 44 points, barring freak results, he should also win his 2nd World crown.

F1
Lewis Hamilton – This season saw him getting into lots of crashes and racing incidents. Some drivers and stewards considered his actions to be rash and dangerous.
MotoGP
Marco Simoncelli – In his 2nd year racing in the top class. Definitely showing potential with his fast times, but reckless maneuvers and crashes are causing him potential podiums and points.

F1
Felipe Massa – since returning from injury, he did not produce the kind of form that made him a strong enough challenger. However he had always been out of luck for the last 2 seasons, slow car, tyre problems, racing incidents which he is usually the recipient.
MotoGP
Dani Pedrosa – besotted with all kinds of crashes and injuries for last 2 seasons. Even though he has managed to mount serious challenges, his lay-offs from injuries  has prevented him for challenging the World title.

F1
Lewis Hamilton keeps getting into the way of Massa during Singapore GP weekend
MotoGP
Simoncelli keeps crashing into Pedrosa.

F1
Massa said that “Hamilton did not think – again”. Hamilton caused a tyre puncture on Massa in Singapore.
MotoGP
Stoner saying to Rossi “again your ego surpass your potential” Rossi crashing into Stoner which took out both riders in a race earlier this year.

F1
Former multiple World Champion Michael Schumacher struggling with Mercedes.
MotoGP
Former multiple World Champion Valentino Rossi struggling with Ducati.

It is kind of interesting to see that both sports share similar interesting facts and traits, and because both sports have so much unforseen entertainment to offer, it usually keeps me glued to the TV and internet for more news and coverage almost every weekend.
