Finally the team of Lions XII is revealed and will be playing in Malaysia Cup next year. The team do look good enough to challenge for honours. But what will happen to our own S League?

Back then when Singapore was still in Malaysia Cup, the bulk of the team were from our own semi-pro National Football League. Geylang Internationla and Tiong Bahru were the top dogs then. But how many people would actually remember it?

I do have a feeling that things may just go down the same way, with the S League becoming a feeder for players to get into the Lions's Malaysia Cup set up.

The Table Tennis Women's World Cup has just ended and the eventual winner belonged to China again. When I was watching the quarterfinals line up, though different nations were represented, most of the players were China-born. This led me think what had China done to keep churning out world class players and  having them exported to different countries.

Even though I could not catch any matches there (it was an International break and Liverpool was playing away subsequently), the joy of being there at the Kop End was enough to send shivers down my spine!

A Tale of 3 Jordans

During my childhood, when I was just getting to know more about sports, the only Jordan that I've ever heard of was, His Airness, the NBA Legend, Michael Jordan. Then, NBA weekly highlights were shown on TV for free and the NBA Playoffs were shown live. That was also in the early nineties where Magic Johnson's Showtime era was giving way to Jordan's Bulls' total domination.

The National Swim Sagas

I don't actually know how reporters and journalists work, but I must admit that they are doing a very good job on digging up news on the local sporting fraternity.

Last week, they reported that a former national swimmer was charged for going AWOL during his National Service. The swimmer was supposed to be at swim trainings but wasn't present, his coach marked him as present anyway. In the end, both of them are now suspended from swimming competition.

Local Sports Week in Action

As I am just a blogger, most of my information and articles are purely based on the local newspaper reports and my personal thoughts.

In this week alone, there have been a lot of reports on the local sports scene. The headliner of the week, definitely has to be Raddy Avramovic's 4 match suspension from the National football team's World Cup Qualifiers. This effectively kills off Raddy's chances of being at the touchline throughout the qualifiers. I thought that this is too harsh a punishment. I've watch the match, so I can understand his frustrations towards the refereeing of the game, with the added intensity of playing the Chinese and actually leading them at one stage, no wonder he lost his mind. I believe in this scenario, given even the most mild mannered coach or manager, they would also flare up with the poor standards of the handling of the game.

Singapore playing professional in Europe

Finally writing some interesting stuffs about the local sports scene...

Read in the papers a few days back that we have 3 young hockey players having a chance to experience top flight hockey in Europe. 2 of them will be playing in France, while 1 will be playing in Belgium. This is indeed a wonderful news for the development of our local players.

Post F1 syndrome - MotoGP as an alternative?

The Singapore GP 2011 is now done and dusted, and it will be another 12 months before the F1 party comes back to the Lion City again. As always associated with major events, once the event is over, the true fans of the sport will definitely suffer some form of post event syndrome. How do we overcome this?

Singapore GP 2011

Finally the Singapore GP is completed, ending a wonderful weekend of F1 festivities in Singapore. Of course the winner of the race is Sebastien Vettel, great job on keeping calm and cool throughout the race and not making any mistakes for Jenson Button to capitalize.

The Singapore GP this year is already the 4th edition, and each year there's always no lack of on track excitement happening, including the recent concluded race. This year's race, saw 2 former World Champions, Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher making silly errors and resulting in not getting the desired results. But kudos to Lewis, driving with half a front wing for 2 laps, went in for extra pit to change his wing, awarded a drive through penalty, and still managed to finished in 5th place. Lewis may be a dangerous and rash driver, but he does proves that he has the quality push the car's potential to the maximum.

A Weekend of Sport....

This weekend is definitely exciting with the F1 in town. The action and excitement had already been started yesterday with the 2 practice sessions and it's sure to get more interesting with all the crashes and the  kerbs problems. And considering that it was only the practice sessions, some of the drivers even managed to lap times faster than last year, all thanks to the technology and rule changes (salute to the engineers and mechanics).

Haven’t been blogging for the past 2 weeks due to an overseas holiday where there’s a lot of football involved. Anyway, reached back in Singapore and realized that it will be the F1 Singapore GP this weekend, a weekend of festivities, burnt rubber, fast cars and night life.

Malaysia Cup, the olden days.....

Time to feel a bit nostalgic today...

I still remember during the early 90's without cable TV, the sports coverage, though minimal, was already quite satisfying to me at least. That was the time when I believe the EPL and Serie A played a second fiddle to the Malaysia Cup. There was EPL and Serie A highlights shows on TV on weekends and a couple of high profile matches shown live then. I would say they played 2nd fiddle is purely based on my perspective. There was a half-hour locally produced sports show on Sunday then, just imagine that 10 to 15 minutes of the show was dedicated to the Malaysia Cup, just because we were supposedly to be doing well. In fact, it made heroes out of normal players in Singapore which we would admire and respect.

Singapore vs China, a fan's perpective

So many things had happened in Singapore the past week. We had just sworn in our 7th President, a weekend of freak results happening in London, the crazy transfer window in Europe (as usual), and our beloved Lions getting mauled by the referee in Kunming, China, in the 3rd round of World Cup qualifiers.

Creation of a new space

This blog space will be dedicated to the many sporting glories covered or not covered by the press in Singapore. The views will be based on a fan's perspectives of events, be it good or bad.

While most of the Singaporeans prefer more international sporting events like Barclays Premier League, F1, NBA and etc, this blog will try to give various opinions of the events that may differ from the news.

Coming back to local sports, I, as the creator of the blog, hopes to fill up the space with more relevant topics and discussion points in Singapore sports. Anyway we are trying to be a regional sports hub, there is a need for more spaces for local news!!
